⭐ 1. The Old Town Was an Island
Until the 18th century, Rovinj was a real island. In 1763 the Austrians filled in the channel and connected it to the mainland. That's why the streets are so narrow and winding – designed for defense, not comfort.




Žminj is a picturesque Istrian town located in the center of the peninsula, known for its traditional architecture and peaceful, authentic atmosphere. Surrounded by hills, vineyards, and olive groves, it is an ideal place for relaxation and discovering Istrian culture.

The Church of St. Euphemia has the tallest bell tower in Istria – 62 meters – and the statue of St. Euphemia on top rotates depending on the wind direction.
In the Old Town, many houses have doors and windows directly on the sea, typical of old Venetian fishing towns and one of Rovinj’s most iconic sights.
The batana is a small flat-bottomed wooden boat, a symbol of Rovinj’s fishing tradition. It has its own Ecomuseum listed on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage list.
Balbi’s Arch from the 17th century marks the entrance to the Old Town. It features carved heads of a Turk and a Venetian, a reminder of Venetian rule.
Golden Cape (Punta Corrente) is one of the most beautiful places for walking and cycling in Istria, known for its pine forest, coves, and crystal-clear sea.
Rovinj is considered one of the most romantic towns in Europe thanks to its sea views, picturesque narrow streets, and spectacular sunsets.
